WordPress update incoming!
WordPress 5.3 is currently scheduled to be released on November 12, 2019. As with any update, the WordPress update will automatically be actioned unless you have explicitly deselected the option for automatic updates.
Among the slated changes, WordPress 5.3 promises to add more features to the Block Editor introduced in WordPress 5.0 with new blocks, more intuitive interactions, and improved accessibility. The new features in the editor aims to increase design freedom by providing more layout and style variations to allow designers complete control over the look of their site.
This release also introduces the Twenty Twenty default theme, which will give users more design flexibility and integration with the Block Editor.
In addition, WordPress 5.3 intends to allow developers to work with dates and time zones in a more reliable way, by overhauling the code to allow more API functions and unit tests to ensure that time is displayed accurately. The update also prepares the WordPress software to work with PHP 7.4 to be release later this year.
As with all major updates, please make sure to test your site after the update to ensure functionality of all your current themes and plugins. If you have any concerns, please disable automatic updates and test the update on your Staging Environment.
