Startup provides the tools for effective WordPress web hosting

Two young entrepreneurs of Somerset West took a chance on a unique kind of startup, offering website hosting.

Mechiel Couvaras and Syfret Bouwer started their new business venture Mshini, a WordPress hosting company, in March this year.
They saw that South African webmasters and site owners were seeking faster hosting, better security and support for their WordPress-generated sites.

“Mechiel and I have a combined 18 years of experience in the web hosting industry and we’re both extremely passionate about WordPress,” said Bouwer.

The digitising (web coding) technology emerged in 2003 and is currently the fastest growing and most user-friendly content management system in the world.

WordPress used to be associated largely with blogs, but its functionality has been expanded over the years to allow for the creation of far more complicated websites, such as CNN, Fortune and Time magazine.

According to latest statistics, 26.9% of all websites on the Internet, and approximately 50 000 South African websites, are powered by WordPress.

Mshini generates and installs free SSL certificates for its clients. SSL ensures the traffic between the web browser and web server is encrypted, protecting website users from having their credit card details and other personal information stolen by Internet predators.

Mshini also provides customers with tools to create on-demand website back-ups and free staging environments where they can test changes to their WordPress sites before making them live.

Mshini’s offering includes support from WordPress experts committed to ensuring users get the best out of their WordPress sites. “We love technology and we enjoy helping people benefit from technology,” Bouwer declared.

“We’re extremely eager to introduce local WordPress users and enthusiasts to all that they’ve been missing out on until now.”
