COVID-19 Corona Virus banner – How to add it to your site

April 3, 2020

According to item 5.1.4 of the South African Government Gazette Vol. 657 No. 43164

All Internet sites operating within .zaDNA top level domain name must have a landing page with a visible link to www.sacoronavirus.co.za

Unfortunately, there has not been much clarification on how this will be enforced or if there are any penalties involved. However, here are four easy ways you can ensure that you are complying with the new law.

Seagyn’s South African COVID-19 Banner

Github user Seagyn has made an easy banner that you can add without having to make any big changes. This has the nice option of allowing you to add a shortcode to your site so that the following banner can be placed wherever you like.

RSA Covid-19 Banner
You can find a link to the Github post here or the WordPress plugin here.

SA Coronavirus Banner By Robin Devitt

For a simple header banner, you can find Robin Devitt’s plugin here which has a few options you can easily modify. You can see their example below:

South African COVID19 Banner By Bridgement

For a more subtle banner, Bridgement’s offering allows you to add a small banner on your page, like in the following example:

You can find their plugin here.

Sitewide Notice WP

If you want to add your own custom notice, Sitewide Notice WP is a good option to add a small message bar to the bottom of each page. This plugin has the benefit of being used for other notices you may need to make in the future.

Mshini will be operating as usual during the nation-wide lockdown. Please contact us if you require any assistance.
